Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP)
Platelet-Rich Plasma uses a concentrate made from your own blood, injected into the scalp to support follicles that are thinning but still alive. It is used to slow shedding and improve the quality of hair that has become fine and weak, and it is given as a course rather than a single session.
It is not a substitute for a transplant and we will not pretend it is. PRP cannot bring back a hairline that has gone, because there is no follicle left there to stimulate. It is at its best supporting hair that is struggling, and supporting a transplant once you have had one make FUE the right option for you.

Consultation & suitability
A clinician examines your scalp, stages your loss and checks your medical history, because blood conditions and certain medications rule PRP out. You are told honestly whether it will help you.
Blood draw & preparation
A small sample of your blood is taken and spun in a centrifuge to separate and concentrate the platelets.
Injection
The concentrate is injected across the thinning areas of the scalp under numbing. It takes around 45 minutes and you go back to your day.
The course, then maintenance

What PRP can do, and what it cannot
PRP is one of the most oversold treatments in this industry. Here is a straight account of what it is, what the course involves and where it genuinely helps.
What actually happens
A small amount of your blood is taken, spun in a centrifuge to concentrate the platelets, and the concentrate is injected into the thinning areas of your scalp. It is your own blood, so there is nothing foreign going in.
It is a course, not a session
Typically three to four sessions spaced four to six weeks apart, then maintenance every six to twelve months. One session on its own will not do much, which is worth knowing before anyone sells you one.
What it can realistically do
It is used to support the hair you still have: reduce shedding, and improve the calibre of hair that has thinned. It works on follicles that are struggling, not on ones that are gone.
What it cannot do
It will not regrow a bald scalp. Where a follicle has died there is nothing left for PRP to act on. Any clinic implying otherwise is overselling it, and the evidence base for PRP, while promising, is not as strong as it is often made to sound.
After a transplant
PRP is often used alongside a transplant to support the transplanted grafts and the native hair around them. That is one of its more sensible uses, because a transplant does nothing to protect the hair it sits between.
When it is not suitable
Certain blood conditions, some medications and other health factors make PRP unsuitable. That is assessed properly before anything is booked, not waved through.

Does PRP actually work?+
The honest answer is: for some men, on hair that is thinning rather than gone, and not as dramatically as it is usually sold. Studies show improvements in hair calibre and shedding for many patients, but the evidence base is mixed and the effect is supportive, not transformative. If someone tells you PRP will regrow your hairline, walk out.
How many sessions will I need?+
Usually three to four sessions four to six weeks apart, then maintenance every six to twelve months. It is a course and an ongoing commitment, not a one-off, and the total cost over a year is what you should be comparing, not the price of a single session.
Does it hurt?+
There is a blood draw, and the injections into the scalp are uncomfortable rather than painful. Numbing is used, and most men describe tenderness and some redness for a day afterwards. You go back to normal the same day.
When will I see results?+
Nothing is visible immediately. Reduced shedding usually comes first, over two to three months, with any improvement in thickness building across the course. Six months is the earliest fair point to judge it. Some men see very little, and outcomes vary from person to person.
